Charter Jet CEO offers tips to avoid expensive, frustrating mistakes

The CEO of Silver Air is offering advice to private jet charter customers he says will save them time and thousands of dollars.

Charter and private jet management company CEO Jason Middleton of Silver Air Private Jets says many of the most expensive and frustrating private aviation charter mistakes are easy to avoid.

Middleton shared the tips via YouTube.

“After handling thousands of private jet flights over the years, we’ve seen every mistake passengers make,” Middleton says.

His goal, he explains, is to help charter clients avoid turning small oversights into large, unexpected bills.

Seat Stains

“Don’t let your $800 pants cost you $5,000 on your next private jet trip,” Middleton warns.

One of the most common and costly problems starts with dark, heavily dyed blue jeans.

“We’ve seen people wear these really dark stained blue jeans, and when you sit on these really nice leather seats, that ink transfers,” Middleton explains.

Once denim dye transfers to aircraft leather, Middleton says the damage is often permanent.

“When it transfers onto the seats, we can’t get it out,” he says.

Fixing the issue usually means restoring the leather, which is not cheap.

“It costs us thousands of dollars to re-dye the seats,” Middleton says, adding that cleaning bills can reach $5,000.

He notes that the irony is that many of the worst stains come from high-end designer denim.

“We see guests wearing really cool, very expensive designer jeans, and then we have to send them a cleaning bill that is not pretty,” he says.

Dress Comfortably

Middleton emphasizes that private jet cabins are meant to feel comfortable, not fragile or formal.

“The cabins on our private jets are meant to be a private space, meant to be very comfortable,” he says.

That philosophy extends directly to what passengers wear on board.

“We always encourage our guests, when you come on the airplane, just dress comfortably,” Middleton says.

He compares the cabin environment to home rather than transportation.

“Think of it like your living room,” he explains.

Pack Small

Baggage is another area where passenger assumptions often clash with aircraft realities.

Even on large-cabin aircraft, storage space is limited and oddly shaped.

“It’s a fairly big baggage hold, but it’s still very limited,” Middleton says while standing inside one.

Large airline-style roller bags create problems that many passengers do not anticipate.

“When you have these huge roller bags that are meant to be checked on the airlines, it’s really difficult to fit a lot on the airplane,” he says.

His advice runs counter to airline habits.

“Bring small bags, but more of them,” Middleton says.

He explains that multiple smaller bags allow crews to maximize available space.

“When you have these smaller bags, we can fit them in more places and actually get more on the airplane,” he says.

Garment bags, Middleton adds, are especially helpful for both crew and passengers.

“Bringing hanging bags is ideal,” he says.

They reduce wrinkles, simplify loading, and allow passengers to change during the flight.

“You can arrive at your destination fresh,” Middleton notes.

Catering Tips

Catering is another area where expectations can easily exceed what is operationally realistic.

Middleton says passengers often underestimate the size of private jet galleys.

“It’s a very small environment, a tight, cramped space,” he explains.

With larger groups, traditional plated service can slow everything down.

“The last thing you want is one plate coming out now and another 30 minutes later,” Middleton says.

Family-style or buffet service often works better.

“It allows us to make the experience amazing without causing delays,” he says.

Slow Wi-Fi, No Wi-Fi

In-flight entertainment is also inconsistent across the private fleet.

“We always encourage our guests to bring their own entertainment,” Middleton says.

Wi-Fi quality varies significantly across aircraft and systems.

“Some are great at streaming, some don’t really support it,” he explains.

His recommendation is simple.

“Download your movies and be prepared,” Middleton says.

Getting To, From The Airport

Finally, Middleton stresses that ground transportation should never be an afterthought.

“Allowing us to coordinate ground transportation is always best practice,” he says.

When handled properly, it ensures the trip ends as smoothly as it begins.

“We don’t want the last mile of your journey to ruin your trip,” Middleton says.

Whether it is a first private flight or a fiftieth, Middleton believes small decisions make a big difference.

“We hope some of these tips can make your experience smoother, better, and more efficient,” he says.
